WalkAide®

WalkAide® is an innovative neurotropic company that explores the uses of neuro-prosthetic devices and designs and creates devices, such as the WalkAide® Foot Drop System, in order to improve the lives of individuals diagnosed with complications caused by neuron conditions and injuries.

Foot Drop is characterized by the weakness in the muscles and tendons of the lower leg and foot, making it difficult to lift the foot to take a normal step—often resulting in the foot being dragged when a normal step is attempted. Foot Drop can limit mobility and participation in daily activities. WalkAide® aims to enable patients to resume a more normal life.

WalkAide® Foot Drop System

The WalkAide® Foot Drop System is a functional electronic stimulation (FES) medical device that is specifically designed to improve the walking ability in patients diagnosed with Foot Drop caused by upper motor neuron injuries or conditions such as:

  • Multiple Sclerosis (MS)

  • Stroke (CVA)

  • Cerebral Palsy (CP)

  • Incomplete Spinal Cord Injury

  • Traumatic Brain Injury (TBI)

WalkAide® is a revolutionary electronic device that alleviates the symptoms and complications of Foot Drop. When worn on the calf, the WalkAide® sends electric impulses to the affected foot enabling the foot and leg to lift and follow through as they would with a natural, unimpaired gait. WalkAide® was designed to restore mobility to those individuals seeking a return to independence.

The WalkAide® is an FDA-approved medical device, but most insurance companies are denying coverage for the device. With an out-of-pocket cost of $5,000 per unit, the cost is prohibitive for many who see the WalkAide® as an invaluable opportunity to improve their quality of life.

Pediatric WalkAide® System

The WalkAide® Foot Drop System for pediatrics is a viable and preferred alternative to traditional bracing. According to the National Institutes of Health clinical results, children diagnosed with Cerebral Palsy experience significant advantages over bracing, including:

Improve ankle dorsiflexion

Increased fatigue resistance

Improved Kinematics

Increased range of motion

Increased range of motion

In addition, the study also concluded that there was a greater willingness of the pediatric patient to wear their WalkAide® FES device over regular bracing. Aside from comfort and effectiveness, having the opportunity to choose their own brace strap design is one of the reasons children enjoy wearing their WalkAide® device.

The Pediatric WalkAide® System is available for use by children who experience foot drop caused by neuro damage or injury as the result of:

  • Multiple Sclerosis (MS)

  • Stroke (CVA)

  • Cerebral Palsy (CP)

  • Hereditary Spastic Paraplegia (HSP)

  • Incomplete Spinal Cord Injury

  • Traumatic Brain Injury (TBI)

Each Pediatric WalkAide® System can be programmed to the unique condition and needs of each child in order to provide optimal results for a more natural and balanced gait. Children can wear the device with or without footwear to walk more normally, go up or down stairs, and even sidestep.
